In a recent blog post (published yesterday, in fact), yours truly discussed the different types of advertising solutions available on the major social networks. One form of paid social media discussed was Twitter’s advertising products: Promoted Tweets, Promoted Accounts, and Promoted Trends. As Twitter has recently gone public, it was only a matter of time before it launched it’s self-serve advertising solutions internationally.
Today, Twitter announced that its suite of promoted products is now available in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, paving new ways for monetization now that everything the social media giant does will be viewed under a microscope and open to criticism should revenue not increase. Introducing self-serve advertising in these countries, along with the United States, should give Twitter some time to continue testing and refining it’s advertising products before it expands even further internationally.
Small businesses and big brands located in these countries can now leverage the power of Twitter’s advertising platform to promote their accounts to build followers, or promote individual tweets to generate higher engagement rates and/or increase traffic to their websites. Both types of ads allow for targeting niche markets, giving advertisers the ability to target by keywords, interests, gender, location, and device.
Twitter does have a slew of case studies on their site to educate marketing professionals on how to leverage the latest technology in social media advertising, displaying success stories from brands such as 7UP, Addidas, LG, and Pepsi.
